Parent Information

Parental Involvement

Perranporth Pre-School is a charity run by voluntary Trustees of parents whose children attend the Pre-School. As such, we are unable to operate without your help and support and parents are as much a part of our Pre-School as their children.

It is important for your child that you take an active part in your Pre-School in any way that you can.  You may be able to share a special skill or interest such as music, gardening, animals etc with the children.  You may be prepared to help with fundraising or one of the many other jobs which are vital to the smooth running of the Pre-School.

We also operate stay and play sessions once every term, which we feel provides parents/carers with a valuable opportunity to be involved with their child’s education and to be part of the group.  You can see your child ‘in action,’ find out what we do and why and also speak to your child’s Key Person. We welcome parents, grandparents or other close relatives however, we ask parents to allow their child time to settle in before they join in these sessions. This will give you an insight into how your children develop away from the home environment. If you are unable to attend these sessions please talk to your key person about arranging another day to come and join in.

Emergency & Short Notice Closures

In the event that we need to close due to unforeseen circumstances e.g. extreme weather or damage to the building we will aim to communicate to parents in the following ways:

We will update our website and the Famly app.
We will phone parents of the closure if possible.

In the event of an adverse weather closure we will follow the lead of Cornwall Council and Perranporth Community Primary School. If they are closed, we may also make the decision to close.

Our Early Years Admission Statement

In the Early Years Foundation Stage at Perranporth Pre-School, our mission is to provide an enabling environment which promotes the learning and development of every child attending our setting. Our EYFS curriculum is designed to allow children to develop the knowledge and learning behaviours that they need to succeed in life. Children’s learning is led through a balance of discrete, adult-led sessions and carefully planned continuous provision where children have the opportunity to investigate and apply their learning using our stimulating indoor and outdoor environments.

It is our aim that children will leave the EYFS as confident, independent and reflective learners.

We will Nurture your children with their development through discovery.

Through building positive relationships, we aim to develop and foster the characteristic of effective learning in every child. Children are encouraged to become well-regulated and sociable through the modelling of positive interactions and language at all times. Our learning environments, alongside interactions with our skilled practitioners, are carefully planned and resourced to allow children the opportunities to:

  • Develop their communication and language skills

  • Expand their confidence, independence and resilience

  • Learn through active play and exploration

  • Extend their skills/ abilities by testing them out in a range of situations

  • Enjoy learning and have fun

  • Build positive relationships with adults and peers

  • Seek challenge and learn from mistakes

  • Develop their gross and fine motor skills

  • Gain the basic skills, knowledge and understanding required to become confident school-ready learners

We believe that all children are capable of achieving amazing things and we develop this through having high expectations of all the children in our setting. We also believe in working closely with parents to ensure that we can enable the best outcomes for our children.

Parental engagement is very important to us at Perranporth Pre-school and communication with parents and carers is facilitated through, parent open-sessions, online interactive Learning Journeys and daily conversations with staff. We run practical sessions throughout the year to help parents and carers in supporting children at home.

We recognise the unique practice of nurturing the learning of young children with specific needs and we are aware of the importance of early intervention for children facing specific developmental/ learning challenges. Our experienced SEND Coordinator works closely with staff as well as parents and cares to ensure tailored support is available for children and families if necessary.

Staff work tirelessly to create an environment that fosters personal, social and emotional development whilst also promoting a love of learning through our engaging topic based curriculum. Our strong focus on speech and language development allows children to access the EYFS curriculum and in turn make excellent progress towards reaching the good level of development at the end of their time at Pre-School.
